EMT Job Description

To provide appropriate, efficient and timely pre and post-hospital basic life support care and transportation of the sick and injured in accordance with local, state, national and Metro Ambulance LLC standards of practice. An Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) provides Basic Life Support (BLS) services to assignments for both emergency and non-emergency transports given from the appropriate dispatch authority in efficient professional manner and in compliance with EMS and NJ State protocols, policies and procedures. The EMT position requires patient care, driving EMS vehicles, as well as lifting and moving patients and equipment, including lifting of patients from beds or emergency scenes onto stretcher and into ambulance; carrying of patients and equipment; climbing stairs or steps.

EMT Qualifications:

You must have

  • Current valid NJ, NY, PA or National EMT Certification

  • Healthcare Provider CPR Certification

  • Valid Driver's License from a USA state

EMT Responsibilities:

  • Provides pre and post-hospital basic and life support treatment in accordance with each patient's condition, applicable standards of care, procedures and protocols, and in compliance with State and Federal statutes and regulations.

  • Operates Metro Ambulance LLC vehicles safely and professionally, in compliance with laws and regulations, and with due regard for the public, while providing safe and efficient transport of the patient in the ambulance to and from the medical facility.

  • Documents all aspects of patient condition and treatments in designated EMS reports.  Obtains and records non-medical patient information as required.  Completes other patient documentation and forms as required.

  • Operates wireless communication devices in a professional manner.

  • Provides routine troubleshooting, maintenance and cleaning of EMS equipment, vehicles and station facilities. Promptly reports all equipment failures and problems in a manner consistent with Metro Ambulance LLC incident reporting procedures.

  • Maintains required certifications in accordance with Metro Ambulance LLC policy, and all applicable State and Federal statutes and regulations.

  • Completes all required Trauma Soft reports and logs and when necessary provides other ambulance and supervisory personnel with the pertinent information.

Job Description / Responsibilities
Coordinate the Work and Activities of EMTs.
Conduct yourself in a courteous, helpful, and professional manner at all times when dealing with patients, co-workers, supervisors and or the public.
Receive, prioritize, and dispatch calls in Computer Aided Dispatch System.
Provide top-tier customer service to medical facilities, the public, and our EMTs.
Gather patient billing information and appropriate billing signatures.
Roll up your sleeves and get things done!
Maintain professional and courteous demeanor in office and with customers on the phone.
Dispatch ambulances to scheduled runs to ensure the appropriate medical level of transport care to area facilities.
Intake a large call volume and triage efficiently with the most appropriate level of care.
Be a team player, as EMS is a team effort, and providers must offer most coherent assistance to ensure readiness and adherence to quality and compliance standards.
Be flexible: EMS operates on a 24-hour clock and your work shift schedule may vary due to the nature of the business.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent
Experience as a dispatcher in a relevant field (EMS/ Clinical background is preferred)
Tech-savvy with knowledge of computer-aided dispatch software (CAD)
Fast typing with experience in data entry
Knowledge of procedures and guideline for emergency situations
Proficient in English (oral and written)
Outstanding organizational and multitasking abilities
Active listener with excellent communication skills
Sound judgment and critical thinking
Certifications/Licensing:
Emergency Medical Technician Certification NJ/NY or current National Registry EMT-B Certification or Mobile Intensive Care Paramedic Certification
